Advantages Of Having Canvas Photos
Posted on December 31st, 2009 No commentsA canvas photo is a normal photo, which has been placed on a canvas medium. Canvas was originally used for paintings and this started in the middle ages. One advantage of canvas photos is that this canvas is very long lasting – you only have to go to a world-class museum to see the condition of paintings that were done hundreds of years ago. Such a famous painting is Leonardo da Vinci’s Monalisa, which was done about half a millennium ago. Another name for a canvas photo is a canvas picture.Another major strong point for using canvas photos is that the photos that you submit can be in any format. You can submit your digital photo to be put on canvas or the photo can be still. A digital photo is easier to deal with because you just have to input it into the system and edit it a little. A still photo is harder to do because it has to be scanned first before it is input into the system. Apart from digital and still photos, you can also get a canvas picture from turn slides, negatives, or even your children’s drawings. A major strong point is that the quality of canvas photos is really amazing and the final product looks very real. It can be said that the quality is sometimes better than the real thing because before the final product is gotten, some editing is done and so such things as blemishes, shadows, bad lighting, etc, can be taken care of.Another advantage of these photos is that the final product is much larger than the original sample. The customer dictates the size of the final product and it depends on such things as the money available for the same, the size and position of the wall it is to be placed into, and other personal preferences. Another advantage is that the cost is not as much as an artist would seek because artists have to use their hands and imagination, which increases the cost. Another reason why the cost is not too high is that it takes a very short time and with the artist, the time spent and consequently translated into cost is a lot. As indicated, time is a major advantage and you mostly have to wait a few days only to get your picture.Companies involved in canvas photos are now many and apart from lowering costs due to competition, this has led to other advantages in terms of complementary services offered such as transport to your house at a discount or production of free small pictures if you place an impressive order. If you decide to get a canvas picture, you get to decide on all aspects of the final product. You get to decide on such issues as the picture being horizontal or vertical, the amount of lighting you want in your picture and such other issues. You will be able to do this because the designer sends you e-mails of the preview and for your consideration.

Multiply yourself – Printing to Canvas
Posted on November 18th, 2009 No commentsEvery Artist has toiled with pricing their art, they may even have purposely under-priced their art to keep the price point reasonable to generate a sale. To determine the true cost an Artist must account for the cost of stretcher bars, canvas, paint, mileage, fuel and labor, with everything considered art on canvas could be quite expensive and might not ever sell, however, the true value may be what the market will bear. How does an Artist recoup their cost? Multiply Yourself-Print To Canvas!
Today, with affordable scanners and giclee printers it is very easy and cost effective to have your original art scanned and printed to canvas or paper. Years ago it was very expensive to have artwork scanned and it was even more expensive to have it printed to canvas, all of that has changed. Many Giclee Printers will allow the artist to pay for “reprints” as needed. Other Printers may require larger quantities to justify set-up, in either case it far easier to sell a reproduction of the original when it can be printed to canvas with just a phone call.
Large format Giclee Printers are much more affordable than they were 5 years ago, in the hands of an experienced operator the output is extraordinary. There are several steps to this process, regardless of the equipment, the artwork must be scanned, possibly stitched, color corrected, retouched and printed to canvas or paper. The output, when printed on canvas, can be sold “as is” or it can be stretched. Selling an unstretched canvas is, in my opinion, a huge mistake. If you leave the stretching to the customer you are “postponing” the debut of your art on their wall. You have unknowingly tasked your customer to find someone to stretch your art. It is worth the extra effort to seek-out a Giclee Printer that offers canvas stretching – many don’t. This subject is an article in itself – Giclee Printers are sending business away by not stretching the canvas they sell.
As with any profession some are better than others, once your image is archived it is relatively certain that each subsequent print is identical to other. There is little doubt that many Artists’ have considered this as a viable option and have determined that it is far too expensive to reproduce their artwork, I would disagree. I myself am an Artist, Pointillism with pen and ink, tedious, mind numbing and a tremendous strain on the “peepers”. Try working for 150-300 hours under a lighted magnifying lens, then tell me you are willing to sell your art for what the market will bear, forget about factoring the hourly rate. I have approached this subject the same way many artists have, I started to create, I taught myself to frame and I realized that I must Multiply Myself!

What You Need To Know About Canvas Printing
Posted on November 15th, 2009 No commentsCanvas printing is the printing of a digital, still, turn slides, negatives or even children’s drawings onto a canvas to get a canvas picture. With this, canvas, which was mostly used by artists to make paintings, has found a brand new use. The canvas is attracting people to eternalize memories in them because they are very long lasting if taken care of well, going for thousands of years. Other reasons is that you can get a canvas picture from any picture such as digital and still pictures among others, the quality of the final product is very impressive and can sometimes be better than the original due to editing, there is an advantage in size because the size is only limited by your pockets and preferences, they are relatively cheap – at least cheaper than canvas paintings by artists, the short time it takes to do canvas printing, and the fact that you have a say as to how the final product will look like because the designer sends you e-mails on previews for your approval. Some of the things you need to know when going for a canvas picture include the fact that you can get all the information you need on the subject online. There are many websites where you can get such information as price and delivery and it is wise to compare different websites for cost and quality before you make a decision. These companies include canvas print UK, among many others. You can also get a company through other means such as word of mouth and the yellow pages. Whichever company you choose, you should look at the testimonials offered by our satisfied customers before you make a decision. Once you have settled on a company, the next step is to send the image. You can do this online or you can deliver it to the company premises. The company, such as canvas print UK, will ask you for information such as the size required, if the picture should be horizontal or vertical, the color scheme of the picture, the quality you want, etc. You will probably be asked the amount of money you have to spend so that they can advice you and you will also be required to provide information on how the picture should be delivered to your house.Another thing to know is that the designer has the duty to produce the final product only after consultations with you. He/she should send you e-mails of the preview for approval and if you don’t like it, you are supposed to say so and offer suggestions. It is your money and you should not settle for less!Another thing to know is that you have the right to refuse a piece of work if it does not meet the specifications you asked for. You need to know that you are not obliged to pay for canvas printing until you are completely satisfied and you should know that the company should not stay with your picture for more than four days on average.

I've been denying the artist inside me for too long. It seems to be that no mater what I do in life, things always bring me back to my Art. I love it, I enjoy it, it defines me. At the moment I'm just following my dreams, doing what I love...
Painting has always been a long time hobby of mine, but over the past couple of years it has been something I've found myself doing more and more and I've given a lot of my work away without documenting it, so a lot of it is lost in the sands of time... With the site I'm hoping to get a lot more exposure and feedback on my work which will help me to grow and develop further as an artist. All comments and critiques are welcome!
